A School Council formed of students from Knutsford based prep school, Yorston Lodge has raised £105 for local charity, Mid Cheshire Riding for the Disabled.

After a whole school election, representatives were chosen from across the different year groups (Years 1 to 6) to create the first ever Yorston Lodge School Council. Established in 2021, the Council was formed to give pupils the opportunity to voice their opinions on school changes, new activities and initiatives the school community takes part in. One of the first tasks on the group's agenda was to support a local animal charity.

Pupils visited the stables at Allostock Hall and talked with the charity's volunteers about how they care for each horse and the special requirements each one needs to ensure they remain happy and healthy. The children raised the funds by selling sweets at the school's tuck shop each week and the money will be used to pay for horses, Ted and Quin to receive important back physiotherapy.

Janet Dallimore, Headmistress at Yorston Lodge Prep School explained: "The pupils were extremely dedicated to raising money for such a worthy cause and we are so proud of them for creating the initiative themselves.

"We endeavour to foster a culture where our pupils learn to be kind, compassionate, responsible, ethical and collaborative - our School Council embodies all of these values and ensures the children are at the heart of everything we do."

Mid Cheshire Riding for the Disabled Chair, Sarah Payne commented: "Mid Cheshire Riding for the Disabled are very grateful to Yorston Lodge for choosing us as their charity and for their generous donation. Keeping horses healthy is very expensive and we take their welfare seriously which is why Ted and Quinn have had a physio to give them a nice relaxing massage to keep them fit and happy. We had a lovely time meeting the children who asked interesting questions and were impeccably behaved. Thank you once again Yorston Lodge School Council."

Mid Cheshire Riding for the Disabled is a charity, based at Allostock Hall, Cheshire. The charity has been providing riding opportunities for the disabled since the 1970s, and today it is a thriving group that aims to provide therapy and fun to people with disabilities from the age of 5 upwards.
